Farhan Akhtar, Atul Kasbekar call out CBFC for censoring alcohol glasses in ‘Ford v Ferrari’

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is in the eye of a storm, again. The board found itself in the midst of a controversy after it decided to censor the visuals of bottles and glasses containing alcohol in the forthcoming Matt Damon- Christian Bale starrer ‘Ford v Ferrari’.

The Indian film fraternity, however, didn’t like the intervention. Actor Farhan Akhtar was one of the first ones to speak out and express his displeasure at the move. “The day is not far when they’ll just have the script read out in theatres,” said the ‘Rock On!!’ star in his tweet.



Film-maker and photographer, Atul Kasbekar, called the move ‘cringeworthy’.


Several other users took to Twitter to counter the CBFC’s narrative. Some users argued that blurring alcohol draws unnecessary attention to it. One of the users jokingly suggested to label the beer bottle ‘gau-mutra’.





While the CBFC officials are yet to comment on the development, this is not the first time that the board has found itself in hot water over censoring alcohol in films.

Earlier in August, CBFC had came under scrutiny for blurring a beer brand in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’. Later, several users had pointed out on Twitter, that the brand was fictional.

However, it is not just the international films that have to face stringent cuts from the board. CBFC drew major flak from Bollywood actors and cinemagoers in 2016, when the film ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ released. Shahid Kapoor-starrer ‘Udta Punjab’ too, faced 99 cuts from the CBFC. At that time too, Farhan Akhtar had protested.

“Power is the most dangerous addiction of all & someone in the CBFC seems to be tripping hard on Lassi in the Sky with Diamonds. #UdtaPunjab,” he had tweeted back in 2016.

‘Ford v Ferrari’ will hit the Indian theaters on November 15 amid the censorship row.
