My first car
“My first car was a Gypsy. In those days, foreign cars in India were a rarity, and the Gypsy was young and sporty.”
I currently drive
“I’m a passionate car collector, and I like to own all types of cars. I enjoy a drive in a vintage car, or sometimes something sportier when I’m driving myself. My son shares my passion for cars, both vintage and otherwise. It is something we spend time bonding over. “I currently have three vintage cars — a Mercedes 190 SL (1956), a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II (1960-61), and a Bentley Mark VI (1949).
“My everyday work car is either my Mercedes Benz S600 or the BMW 760Li. They both offer me the comfort and safety needed. However, I prefer being driven around. This lets me utilise my time in the car productively, either reading papers or making calls.”

My best drive
“The Goodwood Festival of Speed this year was an amazing, unforgettable experience. The event showcases F1 cars, rally cars, supercars, prototypes, and vintage cars, both on display and actual racing with world famous drivers.”
Memorable scene from a movie
“The scene from the James Bond movie 'Thunderball', where Bond is driving his Aston Martin on the winding roads of the French Riviera.” Person I like talking cars with

Pro-tip for car care

“I take great care of my car collection. The older vintage cars need to be maintained more and driven occasionally. It’s a passion as each car is special. Even the drivers who are given the responsibility of driving the vintage cars must be careful and take them on short drives every Sunday, to keep them in good nick. The cars must be cleaned on a daily basis and detailed at periodic intervals. Also, one should keep them in the garage, away from the sun, heat and rain. Newer cars are regularly used, but should also be detailed and serviced by their authorised dealers.”
How to make a stylish entry
“It actually depends on the occasion or place, but I mostly use my Rolls-Royce Phantom.” Lessons learnt
“Drive safe. Better safe than sorry. Better late than never.”
