While his on-screen persona became iconic, his personal life, especially his long and complex relationship with Rebecca Gayheart.

All you need to know about Eric Dane's wife and family

Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart’s love story began in the early 2000s. Unlike the slow-burn romances he portrayed on television, their real-life relationship moved quickly. The couple tied the knot in October 2004, less than a year after they met. Over the years, they built a family together and welcomed two daughters, Billie Beatrice in 2010 and Georgia Geraldine in 2011.

For a long time, they appeared to be one of Hollywood’s steady couples. However, in February 2018, after 14 years of marriage, Gayheart filed for divorce. At the time, Dane had shared that ending the marriage felt like the right decision for their family, but he emphasised that their priority would always be their daughters. Despite the legal filing, their divorce was never finalised.

In March 2025, seven years after the initial petition, Gayheart requested to dismiss it. Though the couple had spent years separated, they continued to support each other and co-parent closely. In several interviews with media portal, Gayheart described them as best friends who had found a new normal. She once explained that while the relationship had changed, they were committed to raising their daughters together with care and dignity.

Just weeks after the divorce petition was dismissed, Eric publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with ALS in April 2025. Speaking to PEOPLE at the time, he expressed gratitude for having his loving family by his side as they navigated what he called the next chapter of his life. He also requested privacy for his family as they dealt with the diagnosis.

Gayheart, too, spoke about how the health crisis reshaped their bond. In later interviews, she described their relationship as complicated yet meaningful. She shared that although their love was no longer romantic, it remained deeply rooted in family. According to her, the years they spent together and the two daughters they raised made their relationship a success in her eyes.

In mid-2025 during an interview with The Cult, Eric himself acknowledged how important Gayheart had been during his illness. He mentioned that she was the person he spoke to every day and described her as one of his strongest supporters.
