Employee revealed that despite getting promoted, he didn't receive pay raise or change in designation
Receiving a promotion without any financial reward can feel deeply disheartening. A user on the subreddit Anti Work recently shared their frustration after experiencing exactly that scenario at work.

During a company-wide meeting, the employee was unexpectedly informed that they would be stepping into a more senior role. What made the announcement more startling was that they had not been consulted beforehand. At the same time, a colleague who previously held the higher position would be transitioning into the employee’s former role. In effect, the two were exchanging responsibilities.

The situation quickly became more complicated. The employee explained that they were now responsible for teaching the colleague everything related to their previous duties. However, there was nothing new for them to learn in return. Management justified the decision by stating that the employee was a stronger match for the advanced responsibilities. Despite this acknowledgment, the company declined to grant an upgraded designation. The colleague retained the higher-ranking title, and no salary increase accompanied the added workload.

As a result, the employee found themselves handling expanded duties without any formal recognition or compensation. They expressed anger and confusion about how to respond. Previously, they had enjoyed both their role and their manager, but the sudden shift left them feeling exhausted and disconnected. Their new supervisor suggested creating a structured improvement roadmap that might eventually lead to a revised title and better pay. However, the employee felt this proposal was unfair, arguing that the company had already entrusted them with the responsibilities, which should justify immediate acknowledgment.

Other Reddit users responded quickly. One commenter recommended updating and circulating resumes to explore new opportunities elsewhere. Another advised pushing back firmly by declining extra tasks and demanding clarity on why leadership believed it was acceptable to assign increased obligations without adjusting compensation or designation. They also questioned why the employee had been excluded from the initial decision-making discussion and who authorized the change without prior consent.
