With time-saving becoming the watchword across a gamut of spheres today, its effect on written communication was only to be expected. Indeed, there appears to be little point in wasting time and typing energies on individual letters if a single tap on a keypad can convey a series of words or even a complete thought, thereby making entire sentences possible with minimum effort. With the emoji lexicon expanding apace and being conveniently language-neutral, perhaps by the last day of next year, maybe all 222 words here may be replaced by a single pictograph.
