Elon Musk reacted to a tweet discussing national identity and ethnicity, calling it a strong argument. The post by an India-origin netizen argued that if white South Africans are not considered Africans, then the same logic would apply to other nationalities, questioning the basis of identity.

It pointed out that a brown British man would not be British, a black American would not be American, and the same would apply to white and black individuals in various countries. The argument emphasized that identity cannot be selectively applied to certain groups while excluding others.

Musk’s response to the tweet sparked discussions online, with many users debating the complexities of nationality, ethnicity, and cultural belonging.

The topic remains a subject of debate, particularly in regions with diverse histories of migration and colonialism. His acknowledgment of the argument further fueled the conversation, as social media users shared their perspectives on inclusivity and the evolving definitions of national identity.

Elon Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa. He developed an early interest in computing and entrepreneurship before moving to Canada in 1989 at the age of 17. He obtained Canadian citizenship through his mother and attended Queen’s University in Ontario. In 1995, Musk moved to the United States to study at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned degrees in physics and economics.

After briefly enrolling in a PhD program at Stanford, he dropped out to pursue business ventures. Musk co-founded Zip2 and later PayPal, which was sold to eBay in 2002. In the same year, he founded SpaceX (2002) with the vision of making space travel more affordable. He later became heavily involved with Tesla Motors (now Tesla, Inc.), joining in 2004 as an investor and chairman before becoming CEO. Musk’s innovations in space and electric vehicles have since revolutionized both industries.

Netizens debated identity, with one stating that White South Africans are African just as Black Americans are American. Another argued that race is a social construct, while nationality is defined by borders. They concluded that identity is fluid and based on self-definition within societal and local recognition.
