'Eat Pray Love' author endorses a break from ‘workism’, says people should be aware of what makes them happy

“A job is something you have because everyone has to have one. A vocation is like a sacred calling — something you consider holy and is the centre of your life. I loved my vocation as a writer even before you heard of me,” she said on LinkedIn’s podcast.
For seven years, prior to the publication of 'Eat Pray Love', Gilbert stoically collected rejection letters while moonlighting as a waitress. “I felt like a failure. It was as if I’d burned the cake and didn’t know the recipe in the first place. While balancing work and life, be mindful of what makes you happy,” she said.
