Florence Pugh’s East of Eden gets Fall 2026 OTT release
Netflix is bringing another big literary adaptation to screens with East of Eden, a limited drama series based on John Steinbeck’s famous 1952 novel of the same name. The upcoming show has already created attention because of its cast, emotional family storyline and the involvement of actress Florence Pugh, who also serves as an executive producer on the project. After months of updates around filming and production, the streaming platform has now confirmed the release window for the series.

When and where to watch East of Eden

East of Eden is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in Fall 2026. The show will release as a seven-episode limited series. Viewers will need an active Netflix subscription to stream the drama once it arrives on the platform.

The announcement about the release window was made during Netflix’s upfront presentation in New York. Reports also mentioned that the series has already completed filming and is currently in post-production.

What the story of East of Eden is about

The series is based on John Steinbeck’s classic novel that follows the complicated lives of the Trask family across generations in California’s Salinas Valley. The story takes place during the period between the American Civil War and World War I and deals heavily with themes of morality, family conflict, jealousy, love and the constant fight between good and evil.

The plot mainly follows Adam Trask, a farmer whose life changes after marrying Cathy Ames. Cathy later abandons her family after giving birth to twin sons. As the brothers grow older, their personalities move in completely different directions, creating emotional tension within the family.

This new adaptation is expected to place stronger focus on Cathy Ames, played by Florence Pugh. Unlike previous versions, the show reportedly explores her emotional trauma, inner struggles and survival instincts in greater depth rather than presenting her only as a villainous figure.

The story also examines how personal choices and emotional wounds continue affecting future generations. Alongside the Trask family, the Hamilton family will also play a major role in the narrative.

Cast and crew behind the series

Apart from Florence Pugh, the series features a large ensemble cast including Mike Faist, Ciarán Hinds, Christopher Abbott, Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, Hoon Lee, Joseph Zada and Joe Anders.

The adaptation has been written by Zoe Kazan, who also serves as co-showrunner alongside Jeb Stuart. Interestingly, Zoe Kazan’s grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the famous 1955 film adaptation of East of Eden starring James Dean.

Episodes 1 to 4 are directed by Garth Davis, while Episodes 5 to 7 are directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre.

Netflix has already released the first teaser for the series during its presentation event. The teaser offered a brief look into the dark and emotionally heavy atmosphere of the story while introducing Florence Pugh’s Cathy Ames.

As of now, an exact premiere date has not been announced. The series is still in post-production after filming across multiple locations in New Zealand. IMDb ratings are also unavailable currently since the show has not released yet.
