Durga Puja diaries: Kajol & Rani Mukerji go traditional for 'sindoor khela' ritual

Kajol, Rani and Tanishaa celebrate last day of Durga Puja with sindoor khela ritual.
Bollywood celebrities concluded the Durga Puja celebrations in style.

Covered in vermillion, actress Kajol enjoyed 'sindoor khela' with actress-sister Tanishaa Mukerji, actress-cousin Sharbani Mukherji and actress-cousin Rani Mukerji.

For the last day, Kajol and Tanishaa opted for traditional Bengali sarees, and Rani wore a silk white saree with a wide gold border and paired it with a red blouse.


'Sindoor khela', a Bengali tradition, where women smear each other and the idol of Durga with vermillion on the last day of Vijayadashami or Durga Puja. On the last day, women conclude the celebrations with 'sindoor khela' and bid farewell to Goddess Durga with Visarjan Puja.


Most married women take part in the ritual to pray for the good health and prosperity of their husbands and children.

Actress Tanushree Dutta, and TV star Sumona Chakravarti were also stopped at a pandal enjoying Durga Puja celebrations, wearing a traditional Bengali saree.

On the occasion of Navami, Kajol celebrated with director Ayan Mukerji, actor Ranbir Kapoor and actress Mouni Roy. Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan also spent quality time with the Mukerjis.

On the same day, actress-director Revathi accompanied Kajol to the Puja pandal in Mumbai to seek blessings for their upcoming movie 'Salaam Venky'. Kajol took to Instagram to share a video of her pandal visit with Revathi. Her caption read, "Seeking Durga Ma's blessings and yours. For our new offering 'Salaam Venky'."

For the occasion, the 48-year-old actress dazzled in a peach-coloured organza saree with floral print, Revathi opted for a blue saree.

Directed by Revathi, 'Salaam Venky' is inspired by the true story of a mother's strength when faced with life's challenges. The film was earlier titled 'The Last Hurrah'.

Revathi had earlier directed films such as the National Award-winning movie 'Mitr, My Friend', and the Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty-starrer 2004 drama 'Phir Milenge'.
