'Dum Maro Dum' sample tune plays at iPhone 13 launch, for netizens that's the biggest takeaway from Apple event

A sample of 1971 song by legendary composer RD Burman was played at the launch.

Apple on Tuesday held its most awaited event where it launched several new products including iPhone 13 series and Apple Watch Series 7 after months of speculations. While the new upgraded models launched by the tech giant grabbed everyone's attention at the livestream, it was the most unexpected tune playing at the unveiling of iPhone 13 that made netizens lose their calm.

During the introduction of iPhone 13 at the live event, a sample of 1971 song 'Dum Maro Dum' by legendary composer R D Burman played at the background. Hearing Burman's iconic tune at the global level tech event was a surreal moment for many, including singer Usha Uthup, who wished the composer was alive to witness this moment. "This is a very special, golden moment for RD Burman. I wish he was alive to enjoy it," Uthup told ETimes.

The tune plays at the background of the video that shows a young delivery man fighting the storm on his motorbike on the way to reach customers with the help of iPhone 13. The song, 'Work All Day' by Footsie which is a sampled version of the original, was enough to make Indians to go gaga over the launch event.

The thrilled netizens quickly took to social media to express their surprise on finding a Bollywood connection at the Apple launch event 2021. By their reactions, it seems like people are more thrilled at the 'Dum Maro Dum' reference sample than the actual products that were launched.

Film-maker Ken Ghosh couldn't believe his ear when he heard the tune, so he went on Twitter to double check.

"Did I just hear a 'Dum Maro Dum' inspired tune at the iPhone launch?," Ghosh tweeted.


Another jokingly said that Bollywood doesn't need a Grammy now. "'Dum Maaro Dum' song featuring in Apple event. All of a sudden people are OMG Smiling face with open mouth and tightly-closed eyes Bollywood song has got global recognition. Think they don't even need a Grammy now," another user tweeted.

The iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 flaunt an improved Super Retina XDR OLED displays with a 28 per cent increase in max outdoor brightness. Both the phones are powered by Apple's newest A15 Bionic processor, but more details on performance improvements compared to the iPhone 12 are unclear currently.

It also comes with improved battery life, with the iPhone 13 offering up to two and a half more hours than iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 mini up to an hour and a half more than iPhone 12 mini.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are also powered by the A15 Bionic processor and offer many of the same camera features as the non-Pro models, including Cinematic mode. Both the models flaunt an Ultra-Wide camera with a 92 per cent boost in low light performance, auto-focus, and a 6-element lens.

The tech giant also launched the new entry-level iPad, marking its ninth-generation update. It's powered by Apple's A13 Bionic processor inside, which the company says provides a 20 per cent boost in performance.

The new iPad is largely the same as its predecessor with a 10.2-inch design. One major change is the True Tone display technology which is now available on the entry-level iPad. This feature adjusts screen content to the colour temperature of a room.

At the same event, Apple also launched the iPad Mini which has gotten a complete and drastic redesign. It flaunts an 8.3-inch display with slim bezels around the sides. The iPad Mini is also powered by Apple's newest A15 Bionic processor. Just like the entry-level iPad, the new iPad mini also features an ultra-wide front-facing camera with Center Stage support. The new iPad will be priced at Rs 30,900 onwards and will be available from September 24, while the new iPad mini will be priced at Rs 46,900 onwards.

Apple also launched the much awaited Apple Watch Series 7 which features a similar design to its predecessor and comes with rounded edges. The Apple Watch Series 7 is available in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm. This time, Apple has given a larger display on both models, leading to a 20 per cent increase in screen size.

Other notable improvements include 33 per cent faster speeds for charging. This new charging method will use USB-C and the current magnetic charging puck. The Apple Watch Series 7 is available in five different aluminium colours: green, blue, red, starlight, and silver. Stainless steel and titanium colours are unchanged from Series 6: silver, graphite, gold, natural, and space black.
