Drishyam is the story of Vijay Salgaonkar's (Devgn) family and their lives after a harrowing incident. Vijay is a "4th standard fail orphan" who loves cinema and runs a cable network service in a village in Goa. He is married to Nandini (Saran) and has two daughters. This idyllic life is shattered when a young boy blackmails Vijay's elder daughter using some secret tapes he shot of her. Nandini tries to convince the boy, who is the IG Meera Deshmukh's (Tabu) son, to delete the tape which leads to a freak mishap.

The rest of the film is Vijay and his family proving their innocence and the IG trying to crack their story. Devgn is consistent and isn't over the top as the street-smart doting father in a role that also proves his versatile acting chops. Tabu has extraordinary screen presence and delivers a nuanced performance. Saran and Rajat Kapoor are credible in their roles and do a good job of supporting Devgn and Tabu onscreen. A special mention and a big thumbs up to Kamlesh Sawant, who plays Gaithonde, the nasty cop trying to unravel Vijay's story.
