Dreaming of US education? American woman warns hopefuls about colleges in USA, 'It's worse than India
Kristen Fischer, an American residing in India, sparked online discussions by comparing education costs in both countries. She highlighted that despite income disparities, Indian public college tuition, consuming only 3-15% of average income, is s...

In the video, Fischer expressed genuine surprise over the skepticism she often encounters when she mentions how much more budget-friendly education is in India. Breaking it down with concrete figures, she clarified that even when considering the salary gap between the two nations, India still offers a significantly less expensive education system.
Using statistical data, she explained that the average yearly income in India stands at around Rs 3.3 lakh, while in the U.S., it reaches Rs 41 lakh. Public college fees in India usually range from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 annually. This means that Indian college tuition consumes approximately 3 to 15 percent of the average income. On the other hand, in the United States, public college education typically costs anywhere from ₹10 lakh to ₹26 lakh annually, making up about 23 to 63 percent of a person’s yearly earnings.
Fischer emphasized that college education in the U.S. has become prohibitively expensive, leading many students to depend on educational loans. She concluded that these numbers make it very clear—India offers far more affordable education, enabling greater access for its people.
The caption accompanying her video further reinforced her argument. She clarified that although her analysis focused only on public college fees, in general, educational costs across all categories in India are markedly lower than in the U.S. She expressed continued astonishment at the resistance she receives for stating this, adding that the financial burden of college in the U.S. has reached unsustainable levels, often leaving students with no option but to borrow heavily.
Fischer’s post has attracted over 47,000 views and sparked enthusiastic discussion. Many online users thanked her for highlighting India's strengths, especially given the often one-sided portrayal of the country in foreign media.
