Dr D's column: Shania Twain should use humour to tackle the Trump controversy
Dear Dr D,
Hey! I was trying to make a comeback in my singing career (which has been dead for 15 years). In the process of doing this, I fell prey to a ‘gotcha’ question! I was asked what I thought about Trump and though I’m Canadian, I answered as follows: “I would have voted for him because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bulls**t. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right?”

I have since tried to walk this comment back but it’s a disaster. What should I do? Please help.

- Shania Twain, Canada

Dear Ms Twain,
Are you related to Mark? I have long liked his bons mots. I suggest you also take the same tack: humour. A start could be rewriting your hit songs and offer an explanation and/or apology. Here, I’ve redone some of the titles for you: Man! I feel like a woman (he said, and then just grabbed me) From this moment on (I’m gonna keep my mouth shut) That don’t impress me much (and am not sure why I said it) Any man of mine (isn’t going to be called Donald) You’re still the one (so help me god) Whose bed have you been in (this Stormy night) Honey, I’m home (is something Trump has said to three wives) The woman in me (hates the man in the White House).
