Dr D's column: Prince Harry's controversial past vs Mr. Markle's staged photos

Dear Dr D,

I was denied admission to my daughter’s wedding at Windsor Castle. You may know the details, which concern staged paparazzi photographs.

My problem is this: was that big enough a scandal to deny me participation in my family’s biggest day?


Have a look at the family my daughter is going to.

I will not go too far back in history because you will not have that long, given how awful the history of Britain’s royalty is. After all this is the monarchy famous for a king (Henry VIII) who beheaded his wives. But suffice it to say that even within the current house of Saxe-Coburg Gotha, the characters are colourful. And so:

- One king (Edward VII) was forced to abdicate because he married a twice-divorced woman.

- One king (the same Edward) was friends with Hitler.

- At 17, Prince Harry was sent to rehab.

- Also at 17, the same Prince Harry was photographed parading in a Nazi uniform.

- Harry was photographed naked, dry-humping a friend, over a game of strip-billiards (where presumably the balls are not pocketed).

- Princess Margaret had an affair with a married man.

- Princess Anne’s husband had a love child with a teacher.

- Prince Charles publicly took a mistress over the most famous beauty in the world.

And then Diana… what more remains to be said about her?
