Dr Amit Karkhani combined his two passions, technology and medicine, to launch Dr. Tvacha

As a four-year-old child prodigy who played chess at a national level, Dr Amit Karkhanis, Director, Dr. Tvacha, says that his mantra was to always focus on the end results. He credits his success in the cosmetic world to the same mantra.

Considered to be among the pioneers in introducing cutting-edge technology for hair, skin and slimming treatments in India, his brand Dr. Tvacha is a known name in the field of cosmetology for the past 11 years.

Karkhanis’s love for technology developed when he played chess on his computer in the early ’80s. With both his parents working as medical specialists, medicine as a career option was a natural for him. He combined his two passions, and decided to enter the field of cosmetic dermatology and trichology.

After completing his specialisation, Karkhanis set up his first clinic in Thane in November 2005. Since technology was his forte, he travelled across the globe to import the latest machines, including the most advanced lasers, to his clinic. With the support of his wife Anagha Karkhanis, a leading infertility specialist, today, he has eight branches across Mumbai.

All eight branches are manned by a team of 15 doctors trained by Karkhanis himself as well as other experts from the field of cosmetic dermatology and trichology. They use the latest equipment, which includes fractional laser, diode laser, Q switch laser, long pulse ND-Yag, cutera pearl laser, BTL radio frequency device, zimmer Z-lipo and Z wave, etc.

Recently, the clinic has acquired recosma laser, which is the world’s first cold rejuvenation laser therapy for anti-ageing, stretch marks and skin lifting treatments.

“Twenty five years ago, when laser treatments started gaining popularity, parameters for white skin were adopted everywhere, including India. However, many people didn’t realise that we primarily have to work with brown skin,” he says. “Naturally, results would not be optimum because two types of skin work differently. Over the years, much research and development has gone into lasers to mould the parameters and make them suitable for Indian skin and hair type. The use of fractional laser has made healing of scars faster and the process, painless. In addition, collagen and PRP mediums are administered, which make the skin and hair healthier and rejuvenated.”

“My vision is to expand all over India, with 40 centres in another four years and also establish centres in the Far East and Middle East,” says Karkhanis. “At our clinic, we believe that everybody has the right to look beautiful and feel young. As you grow older, your body starts to break down, adversely affecting skin and hair. We strive to keep those effects from showing up with the help of the latest technology.”

Karkhanis was also the skin care expert for fbb Femina Miss India 2016, and part of the judging panel for Miss Glowing Skin.

For fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2017, he is on-board not only as a skincare expert, but also has his own subcontest — Ms Refreshing Beauty. He will be part of the judging panel for the sub-contest Miss Glowing Skin in the finale. Karkhanis was also chosen as the skin care expert for Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva 2016 and the hair care expert for Peter England Mr India 2016. He was a part of the judging panel for the category, Dr. Tvacha Mr Healthy Hair. He was recently felicitated by actor Abhay Deol during the Times Retail Icon 2017 awards for Trusted Skin Care & Hair Care Centre.
