Don't go over the top, minimalist manicure is in this season

The OTT nail art is dead. Get over that trashy 3D paint, glitters, mind-boggling patterns, crackle coat, tacky flowers and petals on your digits.

Yes, the oh-so-simple minimalist nail art is now enjoying it’s time under the spot lights. A variation of the 'negative space nail art' (where the nail bed shows from underneath the lacquer), this Korean art is now a must-try for all fashionistas.

Not only is it uber stylish, but is also hassle-free and saves time. "This is also a good bet for people who don’t have the talent or patience to sit long hours at a spa to get their nail art done. It is elegant and takes just 20 minutes to complete, whereas other arts take around 45 minutes to two hours. The demand for this trend is more among youngsters," said nail expert Bina Sondhi.

The art of getting this correct is to keep it understated and low-key. Just put a nude base or light shade and add a few clean lines, dots and graphic or abstract shapes, and voila, you are done! To add more character, you can try two contrasting but subtle colours. The best part? It looks equally good on all lengths and shapes. We are experimenting with this chique art. Are you?
