Doing some we-time: How Kae Capital MD Sasha & brother Kaval bond with dad, Onida's Gulu Mirchandani

Gulu Mirchandani and his sons live in the same apartment building, just a couple of floors apart. But they hardly saw each other thanks to their busy schedules. So son Sasha devised a plan: “We came up with a model whereby every Sunday evening, at about 6 o’clock, we (Gulu Mirchandani and his sons, Kaval and Sasha) meet at my father’s house for one or two hours. Everyone gets to know what’s happened in the week, what’s going on. By and large we keep ourselves free at that time, for at least an hour so that we can connect,” Sasha says.

The family also tries to do a quick one-week holiday somewhere in the world around Diwali. They started doing this about three-four years back and it’s going rather well.

“And at the end of the year, if we can, we do a meeting with everyone where we kind of capture what we’ve been doing, what’s the next year looking like, our goals for the coming year etc. But that is work in progress,” he says. Quite naturally, it is a task to get their calendars to coincide. The family is going to Spain for a holiday this year. The last time Sasha went to Europe with his parents was in 1989, when he was just a kid, who dropped his icecream on the floor.
