Following Sunjay Kapur's death, speculation arose about his estate. Reports linked Karisma Kapoor to the inheritance. However, sources confirm Karisma has no claim. Her focus remains on her children, Samaira and Kiaan. Karisma and Sunjay divorced in 2016 after a tumultuous marriage.
After the sudden and tragic demise of businessman Sunjay Kapur on June 12, 2025, speculation began swirling about the distribution of his vast ₹30,000 crore estate. While some media reports hinted that his former wife, Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, might have a stake in his assets, sources close to the actress have now set the record straight.

According to a recent report by ETimes, Karisma Kapoor is not involved in any inheritance or property-related matters following her ex-husband’s passing. “The children will receive what is due to them. Karisma’s focus remains entirely on them,” a source close to the family told the publication, firmly dismissing any claims that the actress is eyeing a share in Kapur’s wealth.

The Origin of the Rumours

Earlier reports hinted that Karisma’s name was being linked to the inheritance dispute, which has reportedly emerged between Sunjay Kapur’s family members. His mother, Rani Kapur, who holds a majority stake in Sona Comstar, the USD 3.5 billion auto tech firm Sunjay chaired, has allegedly clarified that Karisma has no role in the property division.

Adding clarity, BollywoodShaadis reported that Karisma is not staking any claim in Sunjay’s estate. The actress, who has long stayed away from media controversies post-divorce, appears focused solely on the well-being of her children—Samaira and Kiaan—whom she shares with the late industrialist.

A Marriage That Was Never Meant to Be?

Karisma and Sunjay married in 2003 but officially divorced in 2016 after a long, tumultuous period marked by public legal battles and personal differences. Veteran filmmaker Suneel Darshan, who worked closely with Karisma and has deep connections with the Kapoor family, recently reflected on the marriage in a conversation with journalist Vickey Lalwani.

According to Darshan, there was “a rift from the very beginning.” He suggested that Karisma, despite her celebrity status, longed for a quiet, grounded life focused on family and simplicity—values that clashed with the high-society lifestyle of Delhi’s elite, into which she had married.

“She was placed into a world that was not hers,” Darshan remarked, adding, “She was in this palatial house with endless cars, but it just wasn’t her world.”

Sunjay’s Legacy and the Family Divide

Sunjay Kapur died of a cardiac arrest reportedly triggered by an allergic reaction after accidentally swallowing a bee during a polo match in the UK. His untimely death at 53 left behind not just a grieving family, but also an unresolved inheritance matter tied to one of India’s most valuable privately held estates.

While Karisma has maintained dignified silence, insiders confirm she attended Sunjay’s funeral in New Delhi alongside her sister Kareena Kapoor Khan and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan.

Kapur had later remarried Priya Sachdev, with whom he had another child. Priya has publicly acknowledged the complexity of their blended family but maintains that all children are loved equally.

The Real Stake

Although Karisma Kapoor has no legal or financial claim in Sunjay Kapur’s estate, her two children remain rightful heirs, and that, according to sources, is where her heart lies. As she continues to live life on her terms—quietly and away from public drama—her focus is unwavering: protecting her children’s emotional and financial well-being.
