Ram Kapoor faced a severe health crisis and depression during his show's peak. In a recent candid chat, the actor revealed that doctors warned him of life-threatening consequences due to his poor health. Ram Kapoor has since undergone significant ...

Ram Kapoor recalls working 27 days a month
At the height of Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Ram was among the biggest stars on television. However, the success came with an exhausting work schedule. In a recent conversation with journalist Nayandeep Rakshit, the actor recalled working nearly 25 to 27 days every month, often for 14 to 16 hours a day.According to Ram, the demanding routine gradually affected almost every part of his life. His eating habits became unhealthy, his blood sugar levels were high and he developed several other health problems. Yet, walking away from work did not seem like an option at the time.
The actor explained that he was at the centre of one of television's biggest shows and was receiving immense love, fame and money. He also felt responsible for providing for his wife and children. This combination made it difficult for him to acknowledge how badly his health was deteriorating.
Kapoor said the situation eventually became much more serious than simply being overworked. His doctors warned him that continuing with the same lifestyle could have life-threatening consequences.
He once weighed 140 kg
Ram Kapoor has often spoken about the dramatic transformation he underwent after reaching a point where his health had become extremely poor. He recalled that he once weighed around 140 kg and struggled with even basic physical activity.Recalling those day, he further added, "My doctors told me that I had become unhealthy and that I could die in six months. I could've had a diabetic stroke because I was on insulin three times a day. My sugar was between 400 and 600, and I was working for 14 hours a day. I didn't want to do anything about it because I was getting so much love and making so much money. How could I walk away from all that? I became a very ugly person."
For Kapoor, however, the problem was not limited to his physical health. He has described that period as the worst depression of his life. The actor said his depression was caused by a combination of factors rather than one specific problem.
The relentless work schedule, poor eating habits, health concerns, financial responsibilities and pressure of maintaining his career all contributed to what he was going through.
Ram Kapoor says his children saved him
Ram Kapoor has also been candid about how his mental health struggles changed his behaviour. He admitted that he began drinking excessively during that period and became a version of himself that he did not recognise or like.Speaking about self-harm, the actor clarified that he was never someone who would deliberately hurt himself. However, he acknowledged that his drinking and other unhealthy habits were causing serious damage to his life.
The turning point eventually came through his children. He said, "If I didn't have kids, I would have done what Harshad had done. When you have kids, you live for them and don't have the right to stop our lives. That's the only thing that saved me. It's the only reason I am alive today. It's been over 10 years, and today I am very happy as a human being. Gautami and my children will also be finding out about this right now."
The actor's journey did not end with his first attempt at losing weight. He has revealed that he lost around 30 kg on two separate occasions, after initially regaining the weight because his first approach was neither sustainable nor healthy.
In December 2024, Ram Kapoor's dramatic weight-loss transformation became a major talking point. He has maintained that his decision to lose weight was not simply about appearance. It came after he realised how seriously unhealthy he had become.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Ram Kapoor was recently seen in Lock Upp Season 2, currently streaming on Netflix.
