Bengaluru is currently facing a steep surge in both rental and real estate costs. As India's leading technology hub continues to draw a steady influx of working professionals, an unconventional business idea is gaining traction. Conversations across social media platforms are increasingly revolving around the potential of managing paying guest (PG) accommodations in the city.

On the social networking platform X (previously known as Twitter), a user named Monalika Patnaik humorously remarked, "My ultimate career aspiration is to become a PG owner in Bangalore—minimal effort, substantial monthly rental income, and absolutely no intention of refunding the security deposit."

Within just 24 hours of being posted, the tweet garnered significant engagement, resonated with numerous individuals online. While many users chimed in with their own grievances regarding Bengaluru’s PG rental system, others echoed similar aspirations—highlighting their vision of running PGs that prioritize cleanliness and high-quality meals.

One user wittily responded, "That bit about not returning the security deposit seems very personal!"

Another person quipped, "Forget launching a startup—the real billion-dollar enterprises in India are PG owners in Bangalore. No capital investment, endless profits, and zero refund obligations. Truly a legendary business strategy."

Expressing frustration, an individual commented, "I was shocked to discover that in Bangalore, landlords nonchalantly confiscate deposits. This level of greed is astonishing. I’ve never encountered anything like this in Mumbai."

Another account provided a financial breakdown, stating, "PG landlords in Bangalore effortlessly earn anywhere between 2.5 to 5 lakh rupees per month based on room capacity. If you factor in the hefty security advances collected, the numbers multiply exponentially."

Adding a humorous twist, a user remarked, "Living the dream! Just be careful you don’t end up as your own tenant—getting your own deposit back might turn into a nightmare."

Reflecting on past experiences, another user shared, "Back in 2014-15, while staying in a PG, I seriously considered running one myself. It’s such a lucrative business. However, I wanted to focus on providing quality food and a hygienic living environment."

Pointing out unethical practices, one individual recounted, "Bangalore has some of the most dishonest property owners. Back in 2002, my landlord issued me a refund check, then deliberately stopped payment on it and cut off all communication."

As of now, the post has amassed over 300,000 views, and its reach continues to grow rapidly, fueling widespread discussions about the city's rental market and the challenges tenants face.
