My first car
“The first car I ever drove wasn’t mine — we didn’t have the money then to buy a car. It belonged to a friend. It was the Maruti 800. I started my first company with my brother [Bhavin] when I was 16 years old. We made money in the first year itself, and the car that I bought with my own money was a grey Hyundai Santro. It was manual, it was awesome. Like typical teenagers, we took it everywhere. The furthest we drove it to was Goa. When I turned 18, I bought my parents a car, a Mahindra Scorpio. I bought my first fancy car at 25, a Porsche.”

Currently I drive...
“I don’t get to drive much. But at my various homes, I have a Ferrari 458 Spider [Los Angeles], a Rolls Royce Phantom [Dubai], an Audi A8 [Dubai], a Mercedes S-class, a DC-modified Innova (Mumbai), and a few others.”

Cars for me are impulse buys...
“Like the Rolls that I bought [a couple of years ago]. I decided one morning that I wanted it. I walked into the showroom in Dubai and I was informed that it takes months to be delivered. But I was clear that if I didn’t walk out with one that day, I wasn’t buying it. So I got it that very day. “

The best road trip
“I drove in Cape Town in 2004 when I was 22, with a few friends and my brother. We did the Garden Route and that drive was amazing. Within the first 15 minutes of beginning the drive, I got my first international speeding ticket. When I was 26, I drove a Lamborghini Gallardo on the streets of Las Vegas. I’d gone there for a conference and we had an impromptu road rally.”
