James Clear's 'Atomic Habits' helped Subramanya SV add specific lifestyle habits to his daily life.
Subramanya SV, Co-founder and CEO, Fisdom's areas of reading interest are start-ups, politics, cricket and music. Almost all books fall into this category.
"My objective is to read two books per month. In the last few months, I read 'Atomic Habits' by James Clear, 'Deep Work' by Cal Newport, 'Principles' by Ray Dalio, 'Jugalbandi' by Vinay Sitapati, 'Trillion Dollar Coach' which is a book on Bill Campbell, 'The Commonwealth of Cricket' by Ramachandra Guha, 'Radical Candour' by Kim Scott and many more. I also listened to several podcasts," he says.
'Atomic Habits' really helped Subramanya in adding specific lifestyle habits to his daily life. “'Deep Work' gave me clarity on the need for setting aside blocks of time for doing meaningful work without distractions of email, messages and social media. On weekdays, I typically read for half an hour before sleeping. On weekends, I try to read for a few hours," he says.
Reading expands our horizons and reminds us how little we know of this world. Reinforcing it again and again just keeps Subramanya stay grounded and humble.
"Several books also have an 'Aha!' moment where you discover new things; that is a joyous moment. I think both these mental frames help in reducing stress.
He reads both but prefers ebooks for a few reasons. "Kindle is handy however long the book is; so easy to read even while lying down! I can read 2-3 books in parallel depending on my mood. Particularly while traveling, Kindle is handy," he ends.
