After making waves at the Rio Olympics in 2016, Dipa Karmakar has become the poster child for Indian gymnastics. While she recently won a bronze at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Germany, the 25-year-old has been struggling with an injury that kept her out of the Commonwealth Games.

Speaking to ETPanache about her recovery, Karmakar said, “Whenever I am injured, I try to mentally be in the game. I follow the sport and though I am not able to physically do the practice I would like, I spend a lot of time in the gym. I am there from 9 am to noon and 5 pm to 8 pm.”

It looks like her hard work is paying off. She is all set for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Prior to the Asian Games, Karmakar won gold at the Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Turkey too.
