Saree-inspired skirts, silk dresses rule as Dior turns Mumbai's iconic Gateway of India into a fashion spectacle; Rekha, Maisie Williams, Anushka Sharma & Virat Kohli get front row

Indian women were seen dressed in sarees that reflected the diversity of India. Some of the women were seen sporting the 'Kantha' sarees a unique style of embroidered sarees originating from Birbhum in West Bengal. The 'Kantha' saree spotted at the Royal Ascot 2022 was designed by Rupa Khatun. Interestingly, Khatun has never heard of the Queen or the Royal Ascot.

The gala racing event offered a unique fusion of cultures. Sarees with striking motifs and aesthetic patterns were a highlight of the event. Indian women were not only seen in traditional fabrics and patterns, some of them were even spotted with accessories such as sunglasses, bags and flags that complemented their drapes.

One of the attendees at the gala event, Chinu Kishore, wore the Assamese traditional weave 'Mekhala Chador'. Kishore, according to 'NDTV', is a civil engineer at British Railways who represented Assam at the Royal Ascot. The traditional saree consists of two pieces of cloth draped around the body. While the bottom portion is known as Mekhala, the top portion is called Chador. These sarees are traditionally woven and never printed and feature ornamental designs.

Dr Dipti Jain, who hails from Kolkata, introduced the idea of a group of women wearing sarees to Royal Ascot 2022 to express pride in the Indian cultural heritage. The congregation of women draped in nine yards was also a way to celebrate the rich tradition of fabric weaving and artisans from India. Dr Jain was spotted wearing a silk saree with hand embroidery on Kolkata and London skylines. Her saree also featured the face of the Queen, a red phone box, Big Ben and the Tower of London created by Rupa Khatun.

Sanchita Bhattacharya, a media professional, was spotted wearing a hand-crafted Madhubani silk saree. Madhubani is a style of painting in India and Nepal. They are nothing short of artwork as they depict earthy hues in contrasting patterns. The art form got its name from the Madhubani district of Bihar. Bhattacharya's saree depicted Pandavas and Krishna from Mahabharat, as reported by 'NDTV'.

Britain's Princess Anne and her daughter Zara Tindall were among the prominent guests on the third day of the Royal Ascot horserace meeting, also known as Ladies Day. The event was an embodiment of the quintessential British fashion with many prominent figures outdoing each other with their sartorial choices.

While women stole the show with an assortment of fashionable outfits, men too made stunning appearances at the racing event. The Royal Ascot which has been known to feature men in traditional and sophisticated dressing, allowed them to go for a casual look this year. Cuban shirts were the latest addition to men's wear at the event. However, Scottish quilts and tailcoats too were prominent.
