Abhik Mitra shares what the silver lining in lockdown has been for him.
When you’re a busy CEO, family time takes a backseat. And dinner at home, well, you can call that a luxury thanks to hectic travel schedules, working dinners or commuting that are part of most top bosses' daily routine. The idea of having every meal at home would have seemed implausible. But, for Abhik Mitra, CEO, Spoton Logistics, it’s been the biggest perk of the lockdown. Not just for the fact that he gets to eat home cooked food, but because the whole process has given him precious time to spend with his daughters.

Mitra and his family have finally been able to sit back, relax and enjoy family time like they haven’t before. “It has been an absolute blessing and a bonus for me to have had every meal with my family, particularly, with both my daughters back at home from college on account of the pandemic,” he tells ET Panache.

While he hasn’t taken to the kitchen himself (as yet), he lightheartedly says that he’s rather enjoyed his insignificant contribution, while his daughters experiment with new recipes and techniques.

Mitra says that pre-Covid, family meals were a rarity with it happening three times a week at the most given his busy travel schedule. “We had generally reserved our weekends for family dinners, ensuring that we spend some quality time together away from the chaos,” he says. Now that he’s away from the chaos, dinner is one of the things he looks forward to the most.

“Dinner table conversations are mostly intriguing and often get quite passionate with subjects like social issues, political issues, entertainment, etc. I am often on the learning end of the discussions with my daughters,” he shares.

“I have fine-tuned my baking skills. Although my wife Benaisha and I aren’t vegan, the rest of the house is. So, during the lockdown, vegan baking took centrestage. Benaisha makes the best chocolate mousse cake. It’s made with dates, almond flour and coconut milk — it’s a huge hit. I find baking therapeutic. It’s a precise activity where the outcome is as perfect as the work that goes into it. If you follow the instructions, the end result is good. I love that.”
