Diljit Dosanjh slams Telangana govt for censoring his songs; netizens call out Tollywood for crass item songs

Punjabi singing sensation Diljit Dosanjh is miffed with Telangana's censorship laws. The ‘Lover’ hitmaker hit back at the authorities for their stringent laws against songs/content that showcase violence and alcohol addiction. At a concert, the ‘Chamkila’ actor rued that while foreign musicians get all sorts of leeway when they come to perform, Indian laws suspiciously affect desi singers more.

“When artists come here from other countries, they are allowed to do whatever they want… But when an artist from your own country is singing, people have problems," he said.

A video capturing a unique moment from a recent Diljit Dosanjh concert has taken social media by storm. In the viral clip, concertgoers shared snippets of Diljit performing his hit tracks with playful lyrical tweaks. During his performance of Lemonade, he altered the line Tainu teri daaru ch pasand aa Lemonade to Tainu teri coke ch pasand aa Lemonade. Similarly, in his song 5 Taara, he switched the lyrics from 5 Taara thekke utthe to 5 Taara hotel ch, laughing as he sang.

The clip went viral on the popular subreddit BollyBlindsGossip. Many called out the Telangana government for this archaic law. One disgruntled fan wrote, “They should also ask their Telugu industry to censor the crass item songs and navel zooms they do.” Another stated, “Tell Telugu industry to censor alcohol songs, creepy men harassing girls in the name of love, and crass zooms on women’s bodies.”

What Did the Telangana Government Warn Diljit Dosanjh About?

Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh received a formal notice ahead of his concert, cautioning him against performing songs that glorify alcohol, drugs, or violence. The notice also explicitly prohibited the use of children in his performance, citing concerns about their well-being. It highlighted that the use of loud sounds and flashing lights during the event could pose risks to children’s health.

The notice was issued by the District Welfare Officer from the Department of Welfare of Women and Children, Disabled, and Senior Citizens in Rangareddy, based on a complaint from a Chandigarh resident.
