Mukul Dev, a seasoned film and television actor, passed away on Saturday at the age of 54. The news of his untimely death has left the entertainment industry and his admirers deeply shaken. According to multiple sources, the actor had been battling health issues and was admitted to the ICU prior to his passing. Despite ongoing treatment, his condition deteriorated, ultimately leading to death.

On February 26, Mukul Dev posted a video showing a view of clouds from inside an airplane. It seemed to symbolize freedom, escape, and perhaps something more profound in retrospect. Accompanying the video was the caption: "And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too.... I'll see you on the dark side of the moon."


This line, borrowed from Pink Floyd’s iconic lyrics, has now taken on an eerie and emotional tone. Fans, looking back, are questioning whether the post was more than just a poetic musing. Given that Mukul was also a trained pilot from the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, the image and caption have been interpreted as both metaphorical and symbolic. Mukul Dev's Early Life and Career

Born in New Delhi to a Punjabi family, Mukul Dev grew up in a disciplined environment. His early exposure to performance came through Doordarshan, where he first appeared in a tribute to Michael Jackson’s dance style. He was not just an actor, but a pilot, a thinker, and someone who remained passionate about storytelling in all its forms.

Known for his work in films across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, and Bengali cinema, Mukul Dev’s versatility and dedication to his craft were evident throughout his career. He made his acting debut in Mahesh Bhatt's Dastak (1996), opposite Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, where he played a police officer—a role that mirrored his father's real-life profession as an officer in the Delhi Police.

Beyond cinema, he gained recognition on television, notably beginning with Doordarshan’s Mumkin in the 1990s and later with Ek Se Badh Kar Ek, a comedic Bollywood countdown show. Despite once being offered a film project by Amitabh Bachchan's office—an opportunity he recalled with great pride—even though the film never materialized, Mukul never lost his enthusiasm for acting. Film critic Mayank Shekhar shared his memories of Mukul, reflecting on his time with the actor during a film festival masterclass and later at an informal gathering. He recalled Mukul as a generous host and a deeply thoughtful individual who loved meaningful conversations. Shekhar also noted Mukul’s admiration for Shah Rukh Khan, a senior from St. Columba’s School in Delhi, and emphasized how Mukul remained grounded, choosing work for its own sake, rather than chasing fame.

Actor and close friend Vindu Dara Singh that Mukul, deeply affected by the deaths of his parents, especially his father Hari Dev—a respected police officer—had been silently struggling with loneliness and emotional pain. Despite having a daughter, they lived apart, and Mukul was preparing for a comeback with Son of Sardaar 2, a project he sadly won’t see released. He often spoke about the lasting influence of his parents, recalling his father’s bravery and life lessons, and his mother’s spiritual guidance and comforting support, which helped him cope with life’s challenges, though he admitted he hadn’t yet found true inner peace.

Mukul's brother, actor Rahul Dev, confirmed Mukul’s passing through a heartfelt Instagram post. “Our brother Mukul Dev passed away peacefully last night in New Delhi. He is survived by his daughter, Sia Dev, and mourned by siblings Rashmi Kaushal, Rahul Dev, and nephew Sidhant Dev. Cremation at 5 PM.”
