Bimal Oberoi as Shirani Baloch in Dhurandhar
Actor-producer Bimal Oberoi, widely recognized today for portraying Shirani Baloch in Dhurandhar, has earned a place in the public imagination. However, his journey to recognition was far from effortless. Long before he became a familiar face, he navigated a challenging path, beginning with appearances in several music videos that slowly introduced him to the entertainment industry.

During an interaction with Faridoon Shahryar, Oberoi reflected on the early phase of his career and credited his enduring connection with Daler Mehndi as a defining influence. He emphasized how this association offered him not only opportunities but also the confidence to pursue his ambitions in Mumbai.

Recalling a significant moment from those formative days, Oberoi described an act of generosity that helped him establish himself in a new city. Mehndi provided him with financial support for an entire year in advance, handing over a set of cheques meant to cover his monthly expenses. This gesture allowed Oberoi to focus entirely on building his career without the immediate burden of financial uncertainty. It marked the beginning of a professional and personal bond that would shape his future.

Interestingly, Oberoi’s first appearance on screen happened unexpectedly during the filming of a music video. He had accompanied the team casually when an opportunity arose. During the shoot of the popular track Ho Jayegi Balle Balle, the directors noticed him and suggested he take on a role. With Mehndi’s approval given on the spot, Oberoi was cast in a prominent part. The song went on to achieve massive popularity, and his presence in it became an important stepping stone.

Following this breakthrough, Oberoi continued to feature in music videos by notable artists such as Pankaj Udhas and Sonu Nigam. These appearances gradually strengthened his visibility and experience. Eventually, he transitioned to films, making his debut with director Anubhav Sinha’s Tum Bin, marking the next phase of his evolving career in cinema.
