Vicky Kaushal to make a cameo in Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar 2?
Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar universe seems ready to expand, and this time, it’s doing so with a familiar face from one of Hindi cinema’s most successful war films. After the first film smashed box office records, chatter around the sequel has only grown louder. Now, a new report has added fuel to the excitement, hinting at a crossover that could thrill fans of both Dhurandhar and Uri: The Surgical Strike. If true, this casting choice could quietly change the scale of the sequel.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna’s Dhurandhar emerged as a massive box office success, minting Rs 1287.50 crore worldwide. The film’s strong theatrical run immediately sparked conversations around a sequel, especially regarding whether Akshaye Khanna would return. Dhurandhar 2 is already slated for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026, and anticipation has been steadily building.

According to a report by Mid-day, Vicky Kaushal has now joined the cast of the sequel, which already features Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal. The sequel is reportedly set largely in Pakistan, suggesting a politically charged and action-heavy narrative. While the makers have maintained silence on official casting announcements, this development has caught the attention of fans across social media.

What makes Vicky Kaushal’s reported involvement particularly exciting is that he will reprise his role as Major Vihaan Shergill from Aditya Dhar’s 2019 blockbuster Uri: The Surgical Strike. The character, which became iconic after the film’s release, is being introduced into Dhurandhar 2 despite the difference in timelines between the two stories. Uri was set in 2016, and the sequel is said to smartly weave that arc into the larger Dhurandhar universe.

Sources revealed to Mid-day that Aditya Dhar has been extremely tight-lipped about the additional star power being brought into Dhurandhar 2. However, the director is reportedly laying the groundwork for a larger cinematic universe. Vicky Kaushal’s extended cameo includes a few high-impact action sequences, though it remains unclear whether his character will directly cross paths with Ranveer Singh’s role in the film.

Internet reacts

Reddit users were quick to weigh in, and the reaction was far from unanimous. Some viewers said they were not fans of the idea, pointing out that Dhurandhar was never meant to be a shared universe and that even the Ajit Doval–inspired character differs across the two films. Others questioned the logistics, noting that Vicky Kaushal has sported a different look over the past year and wondering when this cameo could have been shot.

Several users also raised concerns about timeline mismatches between Uri and Dhurandhar, highlighting how multiple actors played different roles across the two films, including variations in the portrayal of key intelligence figures. While one user referenced Aditya Dhar’s past comment calling Vicky a “Dhurandhar,” many felt the director would not force a crossover just to build a franchise. A few bluntly admitted they were not excited at all, saying they preferred Dhurandhar as a standalone world and were exhausted by the trend of shared universes.
