TIRUPATI: Devotees visiting the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala here will have to produce their Aadhaar Cards as identity proof to get an accommodation there.

D Sambasiva Rao, Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams ( TTD), which manages the temple, said the temple management has decided with immediate effect to allow devotees to get accommodation on the hill after they show Aadhaar Card.

If devotees did not have Aadhar card, they have to produce other identity proofs issued by the government which has their address on it, he said.

In July, Aadhaar card was made mandatory by TTD for devotees performing the 'Angapradakhinam' as a precautionary measure to prevent repeated visits, which was preventing other devotees from getting the privilege of worshipping, Temple PRO T Ravi said.
