'Despicable Me 3' review: The colourful, cutesy film can be a fun one-time-watch

Though not as endearing as the first or funny as the second, 'Despicable me 3' achieves what it sets out to - entertain the kids.

'Despicable Me 3' review: The colourful, cutesy film can be a fun one-time-watch
Film: Despicable Me 3
Genre: Animation
Rating:
Director: Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin
Cast: Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker, Russell Brand, Jenny Slate, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier
In the third instalment of the Ilumination’s hit franchise, Gru (Carell) along with his wide-eyed little girls and the ever-so-funny minions embark on a new adventure that involves a dancing villain Balthazar Bratt (Parker), Gru’s blonde twin brother Dru (Carell) and a unicorn. Gru gave up his villainy but will he partake in a heist just to keep his family tradition alive?

Packed with action, adventure and fun, this movie doesn’t have a dull moment. However, you might miss the level of emotions that connected you to the characters in the previous movies. Particularly the bond between Gru and his girls.

At one point, it might seem like the movie is overstuffed and has too many things going on all at once. With a brilliant track record in the past, it is difficult to live up to and create something as exciting but Balda and Coffin manage it to a certain extent. Carell’s contribution remains consistent and so is Wiig.

If you are a fan of the previous movies, you should go for the movie. You might miss the old warmth but enjoy it nevertheless.
