Designer Manish Arora adds a touch of 'love' to Jindal Mansion on Peddar Road

Artist Manish Arora is taking over steel tycoon Sajjan Jindal’s office at Peddar Road in Mumbai with a massive art installation. This comes after the success of the huge green tentacle display in 2014 as part of an annual art fair in the city.

This year’s installation, titled ‘All We Need is Love’, will be on display from December 7. And its inspiration, says Arora, comes from the current times. “With so much conflict and uncertainty, a positive message becomes extremely important,” he says. “The installation aims to bring out emotions like love and encourage passers-by to stop and think of all the beautiful things in the world.”

He adds, “The Jindal Mansion is a dream location. It’s a heritage and iconic building in Mumbai. We’ll be draping the installation on the facade of the building that is facing the road.”

The installation has been created with yards of cloth that were either hand embroidered or printed. There are around 2,400 pieces that were fixed together to finish the look. Arora says it took him and his team over six months to ideate, while 35 artisans were involved in the project. The final installation was made over a period of three months.

Sajjan Jindal’s wife Sangita and daughter Tarini were closely involved with the project as well. “I strongly believe that art and culture contribute to the growth of society, and create positive ripples of conversation for our future generations,” says Sangita Jindal. “I am happy that Manish has used the canvas of our iconic Jindal Mansion to spread love and joy this festive season.”
