Dell Mobile Adapter Speakerphone review: Compact accessory with multiple connectivity options

It is cute and might even be handy but the price makes it jarring.

The adapter speakerphone has a lot going for it, except for one thing: the price.
Get It For: Rs 18,599
Highlight: Audio quality

The term WFH (work from home) wasn’t a part of our lexicon six months ago but it is now here to stay for the foreseeable future. Work from home has become a necessity rather than a luxury and cashing in on the trend are companies with gadgets that make the transition simpler.

Dell’s Mobile Adapter Speakerphone is one such gadget. A compact accessory that is a USB Type-C hub with multiple connectivity options, the speakerphone makes it easier to receive calls. A puck-shaped design makes it rather attractive, and it doesn’t take up too much space. A wraparound cable underneath the adapter speakerphone makes it easy to connect.

You will find dedicated buttons for volume controls, mute and answering/ending calls. Dell has put dual microphones for 360-degree sound and these work quite nicely.

There is a type-C port, two USB-A ports and an HDMI 2.0 port that provides 4K HDR at 60Hz refresh rate for connecting external displays. Surprisingly, Dell missed out on adding an ethernet port to the device, which in our book is a big miss.

There’s echo cancellation and noise reduction features which work like a charm during Zoom calls or Google Meet meetings. We connected our MacBook with it and the audio quality on the speakerphone was really impressive. The background noises were handled very well and there was no distortion of any sort during audio calls.

The adapter speakerphone has a lot going for it, except for one thing: the price. At Rs 18,599, it is a device that is priced on the higher side. It is a really useful and a handy device to have. But is it a necessity? Not really, especially considering its price. Most people will be impressed by it once they buy it but Dell has a challenge in convincing people to fork out just under Rs 20,000.
