Delighted about biopic, but won’t be involved with casting: Saina Nehwal

In an interview with DT in September, shuttler Saina Nehwal said that she would want a biopic to be made on her. And now, her wish has come true, with filmmaker Amole Gupte all set to direct it.Gupte and his team recently met Saina and her family at the Nehwal residence in Hyderabad, and spent an afternoon discussing the sportstar's life over paranthas prepared by Saina's mother. "To have a biopic on a player is a very good concept. Particularity for youngsters, who get to see their favourite player's life ­ both the struggle and the success ­ on the silver screen," says a delighted Saina.

However Saina, who had told us earlier that Deepika Padukone would be perfect to play her on screen, because of the latter's badminton skills, says that she won't be involved in the process of casting or filmmaking. "I am not at all involved with who is being cast or how the film will be made. I will be doing my work as usual, training and playing in tournaments, and the filmmakers will do their work," she says.

Saina says she has seen Amole's work and is confident that he will make a great film on her life. "The fact that Amole Gupte sir, who has been associated with a number of critically acclaimed films like Hawa Hawai and Stanley Ka Dabba, will be making the biopic, speaks volumes. I do not know about any other aspects of the film."
