Climate change activist Greta Thunberg on Thursday maintained her stand on the farmers' issue in India after facing major backlash on the social media for her recent tweets. The Swedish activist is one of the big names from the list of international celebrities to have come out in support of the farmers who are protesting the Government’s three farm laws at the Singhu border.

The 18-year-old's recent tweet comes hours after a case was filed by the Delhi Police against the unknown creators of the controversial toolkit which was shared by Thunberg on Twitter, which she later deleted. "I still stand with farmers and support their peaceful protest," the climate campaigner tweeted on Thursday. Thunberg firmly asserted that no amount of online hate will change her stand on the issue.

The documents in the toolkit that was shared by the climate campaigner listed ways to support the protest which suggested starting a Twitter storm and protesting outside Indian embassies.

On Wednesday, Thunberg extended her support to farmers after pop sensation Rihanna on Twitter raised questions on the silence towards the farmers' protests in India. Rihanna and Greta were joined by other international stars such as singer Jay Sean and former adult star Mia Khalifa, who showed solidarity for the farmers, kickstarting a heated online debate.

In a bid to douse the fire on Twitter, the Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday issued a strongly-worded statement. The Government agency said that a very small section of farmers in parts of the country had "some reservations" regarding farm laws. The micro-blogging platform then witnessed an outpour of support towards the Government as inhouse celebrities from Bollywood and the Indian cricket team rushed to Twitter to urge netizens to "stand united" against propaganda.
