Deepika Padukone's straight-from-the-heart note about depression

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh had the most beautiful wedding in the picturesque locales of Lake Como, Italy. Her wedding and reception pictures have wowed one and all. Days before her wedding, the actor, a strong supporter of mental health initiatives in India — penned a note about depression.

Back in 2015, Padukone came forward and shared that she was diagnosed with anxiety and clinical depression. The actress also encouraged people to seek help for their problems. Subsequently, she also established The Live Love Laugh Foundation to help people overcome mental illness, reduce the stigma, and spread awareness about it.

A few days before her wedding with Ranveer Singh, the 'Tamasha' actress penned down a letter addressing her struggle with anxiety and depression. The handwritten letter will soon be published in Elle India.

Her letter is full of empathy and kindness, a reminder that (in the words of Stephen Fry) 'it will be sunny one day'."

In the letter, she said that she was diagnosed with anxiety and clinical depression. She said that she was fortunate enough that she got timely professional help and support from her loved ones which empowered her to the path of recovery. The actress added after she dug into the subject, she found that there were millions of others like her who were suffering in silence.

Earlier this year, the 'Padmavaat' actress spoke on 'Making Mental Wellness A Boardroom Priority' at the World Congress on Information Technology and Nasscom India Leadership Forum. She said, "It's okay to have moments of weakness, okay to break down and okay to cry. It's okay if you don't look great all the time."

She stressed the need for people to come out and speak about mental illness. "You are not alone. One in three or five persons feels depression. It's going to be next big epidemic to hit our country," added Deepika.
