Taking it to Instagram, the couple announced the name on Dussehra, a festival associated with the triumph of good over evil. Their social media caption read, “Of Love & Abundance... Devi Padukone Singh | देवी पादुकोण सिंह." The name Devi has its roots in Sanskrit and means “goddess”.

According to the name reference site Behind the Name, it is derived from the Sanskrit word devī (देवी), meaning goddess, and is also used for the divine feminine in Hindu traditions. Spiritually, the name also has a meaning, for Devi is often associated with the feminine aspect of the divine. In Hinduism, the term is closely linked with goddesses such as Durga, who represents strength and the triumph of good over evil.


By choosing Devi, the couple have given their daughter a name with a longstanding cultural and spiritual meaning. Their first daughter, Dua, also has a meaningful name: the couple explained in their 2024 announcement that it means “prayer” and described her as the answer to their prayers.
