Lokesh Kanagaraj is known for creating some of the biggest action films in Tamil cinema, but his latest project sees him in a completely different role. The filmmaker has made his acting debut with DC, an intense romantic action drama directed by Arun Matheswaran. The film has also turned out to be one of the year's theatrical surprises, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide. Now, the movie is all set for its digital release.

Streaming details of Tamil movie DC

The film is now ready to move from theatres to streaming. DC will premiere on Sun NXT on September 4, according to the information provided. The movie will be available in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. There have also been reports about a possible simultaneous release on Prime Video, but that has not been officially confirmed.

After completing its theatrical run, DC is set to arrive on the digital platform on September 4. Sun NXT has the film's post-theatrical streaming rights, making it the primary OTT destination for viewers looking to watch the movie online.


The film will be available in three language versions - Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. This gives the action drama a wider audience beyond its original Tamil release.

There have been reports suggesting that Prime Video could also stream the film around the same time. However, viewers should treat this information as unconfirmed until the platform or the makers make an official announcement.

The OTT release comes after DC managed to put up a strong performance at the box office. The film has reportedly earned Rs 101.45 crore gross worldwide so far. Its India gross collection stands at Rs 78.14 crore, while the overseas market has contributed another Rs 23.30 crore.

The movie's India net collection has reached Rs 67.87 crore. Tamil Nadu remains its biggest market, with the film collecting Rs 47.48 crore net in the state.

Lokesh Kanagaraj makes his acting debut

One of the biggest talking points around DC is the presence of Lokesh Kanagaraj in front of the camera. The filmmaker, who has directed films such as Kaithi, Vikram and Leo, makes his acting debut with this project.

Arun Matheswaran has directed the film, while Sun Pictures has backed the project. Music for the movie has been composed by Anirudh, adding another major name from Tamil cinema to the team.

Wamiqa Gabbi plays the female lead, while Sanjana Krishnamoorthy has an important role in the story. The cast and the unusual premise have been among the key attractions surrounding the film.

Rather than following a conventional romantic drama format, DC combines love, revenge, violence and crime. The story is loosely presented as a dark and twisted interpretation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's literary classic Devdas.

Lokesh plays Das, an outlaw whose life takes a violent turn after the woman he loves is killed by corrupt police officers. Driven by grief and anger, he sets out to take revenge on those responsible.

Sanjana plays Parvathy, the singer who is at the centre of Das's emotional journey. Her relationship with Das becomes the driving force behind his transformation and subsequent revenge mission.

Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra

Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra, an exploited sex worker who becomes part of Das's dangerous journey. The film's interpretation of Devdas is therefore quite different from the familiar versions audiences have seen over the years. Instead of focusing only on heartbreak and tragedy, DC takes the basic emotional idea of lost love and places it inside a gritty world of crime, corruption and revenge.
