David Guetta brings the party to India
David Guetta’s studio is a laptop. No matter where he is in the world, he plugs in and turns into a music-making machine. “We make computer music. We’re the laptop generation,” says the French DJ, ahead of upcoming series of concerts in India. “I have studios in the different places where I live — in Ibiza, Paris and London. I just want to make beats.”

Here’s a conversation with Guetta about his latest album, his dream collaborations and producing music out of hotel rooms:

His “organic” sixth album

My si xth a lbum (Listen) is one of my most personal and challenging albums to date. I have always been drawn to harmonies and emotional music and this album is no exception. But, where it differs is in the production styles and artists featured. The first single ‘Lovers On the Sun (ft. Sam Martin)’ was produced in collaboration with Avicii. There are songs with Emeli Sandé, Sia, John Legend and Nico &Vinz.

DJ, not a party animal

I don’t do anything else than touring or making music. I don’t watch TV and I don’t read books. I wake up in my hotel room and start to produce. Then when it’s evening I take a plane, where I keep on producing, and then I arrive back in a hotel. I have dinner, go perform and then I come back. Sometimes, I produce again, or I go to blogs and YouTube websites for nerdy people to find out about new technology. My routine is fly, play, sleep, record.

His favourite collaborators

collaborators What’s exciting for me is finding talented people who are not necessarily the most famous. American s i n g e r S am Martin, who features on two songs on my album, may not be big yet, but he is insanely talented. I would have loved to col laborate with Michael Jackson but it’s too late now.
