The tragic demise of Argentina footballer Diego Maradona has left the world in despair. Often considered as the world's greatest footballer alongside Brazil's Pele, Maradona was admitted to hospital at the beginning of November a few days after celebrating his birthday.

He passed away due to cardiac arrest on Wednesday. Bollywood stars, the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh and several others mourned the demise of the legend and took to social media to pay tributes to the football star.

"May you entertain and enthral heaven as you did this world," wrote Shah Rukh Khan on Twitter.


Ranveer Singh posted a black-and-white photograph of the football legend on Instagram.

Abhishek Bachchan called Maradona the GOAT (Greatest of all time).

'Rest in glory', wrote Riteish Deshmukh on Twitter. Madhur Bhandarkar tweeted, "Football has lost one of its greatest icons. A true legend. RIP #diegomaradona"

Anand Mahindra, took to Twitter to pen a heartfelt note for the late legend. "Normally one would say Rest in Peace to a soul that’s passed. But to this man, this sporting genius I would say, Play on, Dance on in the heavens—the biggest stadium you have ever played in...," wrote Mahindra.

Marico Chairman Harsh Mariwala shared a video of Maradona shaking a leg, with the caption, "When you do what you love, the universe dances to your tunes."

"He displayed in his game speed, skill, guile and beauty. A genius who played the game of life on his own terms never conforming to norms. GOAT, a legend, will be missed," wrote RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka.
