Daler Mehndi gets bail after being sentenced to 2 years jail in 2003 human trafficking case

The singer was charged along with his brother Shamsher.

Indian singer Daler Mehndi was granted bail after the Patiala court sentenced him two-years in prison in a 2003 human trafficking case.

The singer and his brother Shamsher were charged for illegally sending people abroad as a part of their dance troupes. The brothers later charged them exorbitant fee for this service.

Around 35 people came forward after the brothers charged them heavy 'passage fees' but failed to relocate them in the USA. It was also alleged that the Mehndi brothers took two dance groups to the USA in 1998 and 1999, and illegally 'dropped off' 10 people posing as troupe members.

DRecords, a music label run by popular singer and his wife Taran Kaur Mehndi, recently announced a track "Gudiya rani" on saving the girl child on International Women's Day 2018. The video features six girls who were selected through a contest on Facebook.
