Actress Sonam Kapoor’s father-in-law, Harish Ahuja, has been duped of Rs 27 crore by a gang of cybercriminals. The incident came to light after the Faridabad Police busted a gang involved in the crime.

According to the police, the cybercriminals duped the actor’s father-in-law’s company Shahi Export Factory by misappropriating the Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies licences (ROSCTL), meant for his firm, on the basis of his forged Digital Signature Certificate and encashing them.

Elaborating on the case, Faridabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Nitish Agarwal said the government gives some incentives to export firms in the form of ROSCTL licences, entitling them to some rebate in the excise and customs duties.

These ROSCTL licences happen to be similar to digital coupons worth several lakh rupees entitling the firm to get rebates in taxes and duties, the DCP said, adding the fraudsters had secured a total of 154 ROSCTLs worth Rs 27.61 crore of Ahuja's firm and had been transferring them to fake and fictitious firms opened by them and encashing them.

Sonam tied the knot with Anand Ahuja, son of businessman Harish Ahuja, in a traditional Sikh wedding on May 8, 2018. On the work front, Sonam was last seen in Anurag Kashyap's ‘AK vs AK’ along with father Anil Kapoor and brother Harshvardhan Kapoor. The actress is reportedly working on 'Blind' helmed by Shome Makhija. The film features Sonam as a blind cop in search of a serial killer.
