Coyote vs. Acme is finally making its way from cinemas to home screens after a long and complicated journey to release. The live-action and animated Looney Tunes comedy, starring Will Forte and John Cena, will be available digitally this week, giving viewers who missed its theatrical run a chance to watch the film at home.

The movie arrived in US theatres on August 28, 2026, through Ketchup Entertainment. According to Forbes, its digital release is now scheduled for September 29, just over a month after its theatrical debut.

Coyote vs. Acme will be available to buy or rent digitally from September 29, 2026. The film will arrive on premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services, including Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home and YouTube Movies & TV.


The movie is said to be available for purchase for $24.99. Digital rentals are generally priced lower than purchases, with the Forbes report indicating a $24.99 rental price for a 48-hour viewing period.

The September 29 date is currently the confirmed home-viewing release date for the film.

What is Coyote vs. Acme about?

Directed by Dave Green, the film follows Wile E. Coyote after years of failed attempts to catch the Road Runner using Acme products.

Instead of trying another gadget, the coyote takes Acme Corporation to court, claiming that its products are defective and responsible for his repeated injuries. Will Forte plays Kevin Avery, a struggling personal injury lawyer who takes on Wile E.'s case.

John Cena plays Buddy Crane, Acme's chief legal counsel and Kevin's former Harvard Law School classmate. Lana Condor stars as Paige, Kevin's niece and a law firm associate who helps him handle the unusual case.

The movie combines live-action actors with animated Looney Tunes characters. Eric Bauza provides the voices for several familiar characters, including Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety, Elmer Fudd and Foghorn Leghorn.

Why was the movie nearly shelved?

Coyote vs. Acme had an unusually difficult route to audiences. Warner Bros. Pictures Animation originally developed the film for HBO Max, before moving it to the theatrical schedule for July 2023.

That plan changed in April 2022, when the studio removed the movie from its release slot and replaced it with Greta Gerwig's Barbie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film was eventually completed, but Warner Bros. Discovery announced in November 2023 that it would permanently shelve the project as a tax write-off. The decision led to criticism from people associated with the film and fans who wanted it released.

The movie eventually found a way forward when independent distributor Ketchup Entertainment acquired it from Warner Bros. in March 2025. The company had previously distributed The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
