Seeking Help to Build a Family
According to legal documents reviewed by PEOPLE, Tiffany Score and her husband Steven Mills sought fertility treatment in April last year at the Fertility Center of Orlando in Longwood, Florida. The lawsuit names both the clinic and Dr. Milton McNichol as defendants. With medical assistance, the couple successfully created three viable embryos, which were preserved for future use as they prepared for parenthood.
A Pregnancy Without Doubt
When one embryo was implanted, Score believed it was genetically hers and her husband’s. Throughout the pregnancy, there was no reason for the couple to suspect otherwise. Like countless first-time parents, they immersed themselves in preparations for their baby’s arrival, registering for essentials and eagerly awaiting the day they would finally meet their child.
On December 11, their daughter was born and named Shea Score Mills. The moment should have been perfect. Instead, the couple was immediately struck by a startling realization.
Questions Raised at Birth
A Devastating Discovery
Test results allegedly confirmed that Shea is not biologically related to either Score or Mills, as outlined in the lawsuit and explained by Scarola. Despite the shock, the couple has expressed deep love for their daughter, describing her as healthy, beautiful, and deeply cherished.
Love, Loss, and Uncertainty
At the same time, the parents say they feel a moral responsibility to locate Shea’s biological family. In a statement shared with PEOPLE, they explained that their happiness is overshadowed by the painful possibility that another family may be unknowingly raising the child they conceived. The emotional toll has been immense, leaving them heartbroken, overwhelmed, and searching for answers.
