'Comedy Nights With Kapil' finale postponed, is it payback by channel?

On Sunday night, fans of Kapil Sharma’s ' Comedy Nights With Kapil' (CNWK) got ready to bid adieu to the show with its last episode, but instead, they got a rude surprise. The episode, which was to air at 10 p.m., was replaced by an episode of ' Comedy Nights Bachao', starring the ' Mastizaade' team of Milap Zaveri, Sunny Leone, Vir Das, and Suresh Menon.

Kapil had been quite vocal about his displeasure with the channel about giving more importance to 'Comedy Nights Bachao' and focusing less on his show. When he had announced that 'CNWK' was going off air, he was quoted as saying, “When our show became a habit for the viewers, they introduced another one on similar lines... It’s perfectly fine to launch new shows, but no two programmes should have similar content and celebrities. I don’t want to be part of the crowd and hence, I decided to call it a day .” After this revelation, there were reports about Kapil being wooed by other GECs to be a part of their comedy shows. However, till now, there’s no clarity about which channel he will be going to.

Things took a turn for the worse on Sunday, when the channel didn’t air the last episode of 'CNWK'. Sources suggest that it was the channel’s way of telling the comedian who call the shots.

On Sunday evening, there were tweets from viewers that the show was not on the programme list and Milap tweeted that their show would air at 10pm, the CNWK slot. Kapil also tweeted,

I hope @ColorsTV will air the last episode of cnwk with @akshaykumar tonight since its our way to say a gracious thanks to our audience :)

Sunil Grover, who plays Gutthi on the show, says, “We also don’t know what’s the reason behind the move. But now, we have learnt that the show will air on January 24. We didn’t have any idea earlier that the episode will not air on January 17. When fans mentioned about it on Sunday evening, Kapil tweeted to the channel.”

While Kapil was not reachable, Preeti Simoes, the creative director of the show, didn’t revert to our message. The final episode will now air on January 24 after the Bigg Boss finale, according to promos.

The channel didn’t issue any official statement regarding the change, but sources from the channel say, “The channel wanted to air the finale of 'Bigg Boss' and 'CNWK' on the same day to gain more ratings. They will be promoting January 24 as the finale day and will capitalise on the finale episodes of both their big shows.”

While fans still wait for the last episode and tweeted their disappointment, a video clip of the last episode has gone viral on social media and shows all the actors getting emotional.
