A controversy broke out after Aparna Bhat, the lawyer who represented Agarwal, expressed her displeasure at not being given due credit in the film.
Days after Deepika Padukone’s controversial and much-debated visit to the JNU campus, the film ‘Chhapaak’, based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal’s life kicked up a row. A controversy broke out after Aparna Bhat, the lawyer who represented Agarwal, expressed her displeasure at not being given due credit in the film. She had filed a petition in court against the makers.

On Thursday, a Delhi court ruled in favour of Bhat. News agency ANI reported that a Patiala court has ordered that “the film-maker (Meghna Gulzar) recognise the name of the petitioner.”

Bhat had played a key role in bringing Agarwal’s culprits to justice by fighting her case in Patiala House courts.

Bhat took to Facebook on Wednesday night and wrote in a post that she will be taking the makers of the film to court.

Hours after her post went online, support started pouring in.This led her to write another post in which she thanked people for acknowledging her contribution. She also wrote that while she may not be able to lock horns with the ‘mighty producers of Bollywood’, she has decided to do it anyway and face the consequences.

Earlier news agency PTI reported that Bhat had said that the film-makers took her help in the process of writing and shooting the movie, but did not give her credit in the film.

Meanwhile, #BoycottChappaak still continues to trend on Twitter with those opposing Deepika’s move, cancelling their movie tickets and voicing their anger over Padukone’s support of JNU students who were attacked by a violent mob.
