World chess champion Magnus Carlsen replied to a Twitter user after the person compared chess with cricket. The incident occurred on the backdrop of young Indian grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa emerging as the winner in three back-to-back games including two in the blitz tie-breaks where he outwit Carlsen in the final round of the FTX Crypto Cup in Miami on Monday.

Following this, a Twitter account managed by YouTubers Abhi and Niyu shared their two bits on cricket and chess by tweeting: "Chess is the new cricket. Prove me wrong!"

The tweet received a response by none other than the world champion himself, Carlsen who stated four good reasons why one cannot compare chess with cricket.

"4 reasons why chess isn’t cricket:
Cricket is played on a field with humans, chess is played on a board with wooden pieces.
Cricket has a bat and a ball, chess usually doesn’t.
There are 22 players needed for a cricket match, while chess is only two.
I can’t play cricket," he tweeted.

In a surprise turn of events, the Indian Chess prodigy won the fourth game to push the match into the tie-breaks. He shocked the Norwegian by winning both the games in the tie-break.

Praggnanandhaa has been in splendid form this year and had previously beaten the world champion twice in online events. The 31-year-old also congratulated Praggnanandhaa for his performance that showed "great resilience, determination, and quality."

"Fully deserved, after a performance that showed great resilience, determination, and quality. As for me, I am happy to (barely) be younger than the second and third place finishers combined," Carlsen tweeted.
