ChatGPT or foreigner bride? Grandmother's innocent reaction while talking to AI about her grandson divides the internet. 'Don't do this'

A grandmother’s innocent conversation with what she believed was a foreign woman has left social media users smiling, but not everyone watching the viral clip found the joke amusing. The woman was actually speaking to ChatGPT’s AI voice assistant, something she apparently did not realise during the conversation.

The video was shared on Instagram by Abhiruchi Bhatti, who filmed her grandmother, or Nani, as she spoke to the chatbot. Bhatti told her grandmother that the family had found a foreign girl for her grandson Ashu and that the woman could speak Hindi.

The grandmother then took the phone and began talking to the supposed woman on the other end.

The conversation quickly became the sweetest part of the video. The grandmother asked the woman how she was and appeared interested in knowing more about her. ChatGPT responded through its voice assistant, introducing itself and offering to answer questions.

The grandmother seemed completely comfortable with the conversation. She smiled, laughed and even appeared to blush at different points while speaking to the voice on the phone.

At one point, she was asked about her health and replied that she was completely fine. The conversation eventually turned towards the possible marriage, with the grandmother expressing a simple wish for the couple.

“Both should be happy. He isn't getting married, is he?” she asked, according to the video.

Her granddaughter replied, “Yes.”

Bhatti later explained why she had not corrected her grandmother.

“Nani is talking to ChatGPT, genuinely believing there’s a real human on the other side… and honestly, I don’t even have the heart to tell her otherwise,” she wrote in the caption.

“May we always protect this pure, innocent generation that finds magic in the simplest things,” she added.

The video was followed by two more parts, in which the grandmother continued talking to her grandson’s supposed would-be wife.

Internet divided over the viral video

The clip attracted plenty of affection from viewers, with many people saying the grandmother’s innocence was what made the interaction so touching.

“She is such an innocent soul. Bless her heart,” one user wrote.

Another commented, “This is so adorable. The way she is talking so sweetly to ChatGPT. Last innocent generation.”

One viewer also reflected on the role grandparents have played in family life, writing, “They had wrinkles on their faces, but their love made our whole childhood beautiful.”

ChatGPT India also reacted to the video, writing, “Nani ji ne toh pyaar se welcome kar liya (The grandma has welcomed her with a lot of love).”

But there was another side to the reaction. Some viewers felt the grandmother was being made part of a prank without understanding what was happening and said the joke should not have been recorded or shared.

“Don't do this, please. At this stage, a person is like a small kid. After watching this clip, it seems that you are making fun of Amma Ji. So, don't,” one user wrote.

“I feel bad. This kind of prank should be banned,” another commented.

A third viewer said, “I’ve seen many such videos. But, this one seems like the one where she is getting emotionally harassed.”

Another user added, “Sis, you shouldn’t make fun of her like this. Our parents don’t know how to operate their mobile phones. Don’t ridicule her like this.”
