Charles III to be crowned King of UK today: When & where to watch Coronation ceremony live in India

The 74 year old has been king since the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 after spending seven decades as her heir apparent.

Much of the two-hour Coronation service, led by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, will begin early in the day (May 5). The much-awaited day begins at around 09:20 GMT (2.50 PM) with the ‘King's Procession’ -- a two-kilometre journey from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey.
Charles III will be crowned King of the United Kingdom today in a solemn Christian ceremony that dates back 1,000 years of history and tradition after months of preparations and buzz.

At exactly 4.30 PM IST, St Edward's Crown, a solid gold, sacred symbol of the monarch's authority used only once in their reign, will be placed on Charles's head as the room fills up with cries of "God Save the King".

To mark the coronation of a British monarch since 1953 and the fifth since 1838, ceremonial gun salutes will blast off while trumpet fanfares will sound through London's Westminster Abbey.

The occasion isn’t just a matter of curiosity and celebration in the UK, but also a key interest in India.

The coronation is also special because it is the first of a king since 1937 and only the second to be televised. It is also the first coronation ceremony that will telecast in colour and stream online.

The Coronation ceremony will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC radio. King Charles' Coronation will stream on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds as well. The ceremony will also be available to stream on different TV subscription-based platforms such as DIRECTV, FuboTV, SlingTV and Hulu+LiveTV. However, Hulu isn't yet available in India.

Other channels such as Fox News, Sky News and ABC will also stream the grand ceremony on their YouTube platforms. BBC iPlayer and ITVX will also play the live-stream of the ceremony on their YouTube channels.
