Chandra's the name when it comes to Indian IT!

After months of drama, the corner office at Bombay House will get a new occupant today. N Chandrasekaran comes in as the Tata Sons chairman.

While the moment is certainly one of jubilation for Chandra, for his industry peers, the gain of the conglomerate has been the loss of the IT industry.

Drawing attention to this seemingly important detail in the Indian IT space, was Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani at the Nasscom Leadership Forum last week. "In Nasscom, there was a saying that your name has to be Chandra if you want to be something," said Gurnani. He went on to list out the many Chandras of IT -N Chandrasekaran, R Chandrashekhar and himself, Chandra Prakash Gurnani. There are many more, he said. But the point was made.

Chandra's elevation to the top post within Tata Sons has been of particular importance for the IT space, as was evidenced at the event. He was honoured with a special trophy and a standing ovation from the audience.

After all, the techies toasted "one of their own" being catapulted to one of the most prestigious positions in India Inc.
